Welcome to St. James' Anglican Church in Mahone Bay

In 2008 we celebrated our 175th anniversary.

Visit South Shore Now to read about the celebration.

History

From the time of settlement of the Kinburn (Mahone Bay) area in 1754, the Anglicans were served by missioners from Lunenburg, first in houses and then in a schoolhouse. Many adherents were in the habit of walking to services at St. John's Lunenburg, which had been built in 1753. Early in the 1800's, the settlers began to talk about having their own church, and this desire was recorded by a travelling misisonary in 1825.
